In addition, Peterson presents the factors behind his devolution into the ex-Gay movement and the extraordinary events that led him out. Peterson outlines the push to destroy and change GLBT people throughout history, along with information about ex-gay ministry tactics and current activities around the world. Hear an inspiring story about how one man, like so many other GLBT individuals, came OUT and found new life.
 
 
Living On the Other Side of Zero--Growing up Gay
As a young person in school, Peterson strained to learn about where he fit into the world as a gay boy. One day during a lesson on negative numbers in math class, Peterson discovered positive truths about himself that provided the first builiding block in constructing an affirming, self-image. This block immediately suffered attacks by the many social, civil and religious laws that condemned him as a gay young man. Through sharing his story, accounts of others and current research, Peterson explores the impact of law on young people, the search for identity in curricula and the lengths that people go to conform to society’s demanding norms. This speech is especially designed for young people and those who teach and lead them.
 
 
Queer Eye for the Straight Teacher
Peterson shares his passion for innovative classroom instruction with teachers who want to move beyond traditional lesson plans. Drawing on his experience as an infusion teacher at the Watkinson School, Peterson leads educators through a series of activities designed to foster collaboration and inventive teaching. His aids teacher understand and apply Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory, by modeling creative and dynamic teaching methods that stimulate brain activity and reach a broad range of students. Peterson, a Critical Friends' Group coach, outlines the steps to using protocols, (guided dicussions) within the classroom, with colleagues and with parents to promote effective communication. Educators will also learn ways to create a safe classroom environment where sexual identity issues are addressed naturally within their curriculum. Peterson presents this information through an interactive speech. He can also bring together a team of queer and very stlyish queer friendly teachers to lead day-long or week-long workshops.
