| Doin’
Time in the Homo No Mo Halfway House--How I Survived
the Ex-Gay Movement |
This hilarious
and moving speech recounts many of the same
stories and themes from the theater piece of
the same name. In addition, Peterson presents

movement and the extraordinary events that led
him out. Peterson outlines the push to destroy
and change GLBT people throughout history, along
with information about ex-gay ministry tactics
and current activities around the world. Hear
an inspiring story about how one man, like so
many other GLBT individuals, came OUT and found

| Living On the
Other Side of Zero--Growing up Gay |
As a young person
in school, Peterson strained to learn about
where he fit into the world as a gay boy. One
day during a lesson on negative numbers in math
class, Peterson discovered positive truths about
himself that provided the first builiding block
in constructing an affirming, self-image. This
block immediately suffered attacks by the many
social, civil and religious laws that condemned
him as a gay young man. Through sharing his
story, accounts of others and current research,
Peterson explores the impact of law on young
people, the search for identity in curricula
and the lengths that people go to conform to
society’s demanding norms. This speech
is especially designed for young people and
those who teach and lead them. |

| Queer Eye for
the Straight Teacher |
Peterson shares
his passion for innovative classroom instruction
with teachers who want to move beyond traditional
lesson plans. Drawing on his experience as an
infusion teacher at the Watkinson
School, Peterson leads educators through
a series of activities designed to foster collaboration
and inventive teaching. His aids teacher understand
and apply Howard Gardner's Multiple
Intelligence Theory, by modeling creative
and dynamic teaching methods that stimulate
brain activity and reach a broad range of students.
Peterson, a Critical
Friends' Group coach, outlines the steps
to using protocols, (guided dicussions) within
the classroom, with colleagues and with parents
to promote effective communication. Educators
will also learn ways to create a safe classroom
environment where sexual identity issues are
addressed naturally within their curriculum.
Peterson presents this information through an
interactive speech. He can also bring together
a team of queer and very stlyish queer friendly
teachers to lead day-long or week-long workshops.
